Job Opening: Senior Planner in Rockland County
/Rockland County Department of Planning is seeking a candidate to perform professional and technical planning work of a complex, which involves responsibility for preparing, compiling and analyzing data for a variety of planning activities and projects, including conducting physical planning studies. The work is distinguished from that of Planner in the level of responsibility and the complexity of assignments. Evening work is occasionally required of employees in this class. The work is performed under the supervision of a higher-level Planner and work guidance (e.g., lead work) is provided to a small number of Planners. Does related work as required.
Candidates must possess good knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of municipal and/or County planning; good knowledge of the organization and operation of municipal government in New York State; good knowledge of subdivision design and site planning; ability to read and interpret land-use zoning ordinances; ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to prepare technical reports; ability to use computer software, including Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software used for various planning activities*; ability to supervise planning projects.
