The role of a board member is giving of your time, treasure and talent. Education Officer George Frantz has been doing just that for APA NYU since 1993!

🟩 ʙᴏᴀʀᴅ ʀᴏʟᴇ: Education Officer
🟩ʀᴇɢɪᴏɴ: Southern Tier
🟩ᴡʜʏ ᴀʀᴇ ʏᴏᴜ ɪɴᴠᴏʟᴠᴇᴅ ɪɴ ᴀᴘᴀ: I have been actively involved off and on since 1993 as a Board member or Southern Tier Section officer. It’s been a great opportunity to engage with planners from across the Upstate region and more recently nationally as an APA chapter delegate last year. Since I started my 3rd career in 2017 as a full-time planning professor at Cornell, it seemed natural for me to take on the duties as Education Officer for the Chapter; and I now also teach a new AICP exam prep course at Cornell, soon possible to be an online course.
🟩ꜰᴀᴠᴏʀɪᴛᴇ ᴛʜɪɴɢ ᴀʙᴏᴜᴛ ᴀᴘᴀ ɴʏᴜ: The comradery I experience working with a diverse range of planners from around Upstate NY who are really dedicated to advancing the profession of planning in the region. Working on the Southern Tier team organizing the conference last fall was a challenging but enjoyable task.
🟩ꜰᴜɴ ꜰᴀᴄᴛ ᴛᴏ ꜱʜᴀʀᴇ ᴡɪᴛʜ ᴛʜᴇ ᴍᴇᴍʙᴇʀꜱʜɪᴘ: Since 2010 my teaching, consulting and research in China has taken me to 17 of that country’s 27 provinces, and last summer while doing field work in 3 national parks I found myself more than halfway around the world from Ithaca and 10 miles from Kazakhstan, 30 miles Russia, and enjoying horse milk ice cream bars.
George is a critical connection between our students, the board and overall membership. We are lucky to have his involvement. Are you a planning student wanting to get involved in the Chapter? We'd love to hear from you!
