Job Opening: Assistant Planner, Colonie, NY
/The Town of Colonie is located in Upstate New York at the heart of New York's Capital Region. The Town is made up by 57 square miles of land bordered by the Mohawk River to the north and the Hudson River to the east. Since Colonial times, people had to cross through what is now Colonie in order to make their way between the cities of Albany, Schenectady, or Troy. The Town of Colonie is a highly desirable location, centrally located and served by airports and interstates.
Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for an Assistant Planner. The Assistant Planner is an essential team member in the Planning and Economic Development Department. The Assistant Planner has a number of responsibilities including, but not limited to, performing completeness reviews of application and notifies applicants regarding deficiencies or noncompliance with approved procedures, advising them of necessary corrective steps; responding to inquiries from the general public relative to such matters as land use, soil conditions, flood areas, utilities, etc.; and working with other involved Town departments regarding requirements for site plan approval.
Qualifications
Associate’s Degree or higher in Civil Technology, Engineering Technology, Geography, Planning, Public Administration, or a related field
At least two years of experience assisting in planning work
OR an equivalent combination of training and experience
